Durham Viper Jets Visually Impaired Cricket Club

The Durham Viper Jets Visually Impaired Cricket Club (DVJVICC) began life in the summer of 2010, when we had just a handful of interested players and little experience. After playing friendly matches, we had our first AGM and a constitution was set up, we also joined the BCEW and began playing in their development league, and cup competitions.
We are the only VI Cricket club in the Northeast, and have players from all over county Durham, Newcastle and even as far as Yarm.
The team has eleven mixed sex and age players, classified as totals, low partial, mid partial and high partial. Visually Impaired (VI) cricket is a specially adapted version of the game that is suitable for anyone with a visual impairment – whether partially sighted or blind. The main adaption being the ball used, played with a larger ball filled with tiny carbon balls that make a sound when the balls hit or bounces, the other main adaption is slightly larger stumps painted white and on a solid base.
We train once a week using an indoor facility during the winter and outdoors the rest of the season.
